Dear McCoy Families, Due to the identified natural gas leak, repair and replacement of infrastructure has begun. Staff and students will not be permitted in the building during this time for safety reasons. As a result, instruction for the week of March 6 will be virtual/remote for McCoy Avenue Elementary only - all other campuses will be operating normally. Please contact your child's teacher via class dojo, email, or Google Classroom. In addition, teachers will make arrangements to have parent-teacher conferences done virtually. We apologize for this inconvenience and look forward to welcoming our students back into the building following spring break!

Hello McCoy Families, Today at approximately 1:00 PM we were notified of a possible natural gas leak in a section of McCoy Elementary School. Out of an abundance of caution students in the impacted section of the building were relocated to another area while district officials and outside agencies investigate. Additionally gas to this area has been turned off. Due to early release students will be sent home at the normal time. We want to stress that currently students and staff are safe. We will update you as we obtain additional information. Thank you, Aztec Schools

Dear Parents, On behalf of the staff at McCoy Elementary School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she: 1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience 2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers 3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills 4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life 5) Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject 6) Knows that you support him/her to succeed in school Please consider joining our school volunteer program as our students can greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions to the school community. Please see the 2022-23 McCoy Parent Student Handbook (located on the McCoy Webpage) and review school rules with your child. If you have any questions about the rules and expectations, please feel free to contact me or to discuss them with your child’s teacher. It is very important that you and your child are fully informed regarding standards related to appropriate behavior for a safe and productive school year. The wonderful McCoy staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to meeting with you throughout the year. Sincerely, Phyllis Cox Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians We have a unique opportunity coming soon. This year on Tuesday, February 22nd, the date will be 2-22-22, and we are excited that we will be able to celebrate TWOs DAY! We will enjoy learning about the number 2, pairs of objects, doubles and much more. For lunch we will have tacos (Taco Tuesday). This special day will kick off our school-wide read-a-thon as well. This kind of celebration is a perfect time for our students and school personnel to dress up in meaningful ways. It is entirely optional, but here are our dress up options: • Wear a tutu • Wear a pair of tube socks or mismatched pair of socks • Wear a tie or bowtie We look forward to a day filled with fun activities!

Good Evening McCoy Families, While our team has been working diligently since Wednesday to repair the water leak at McCoy they have found additional leaks at the school. At this time for the safety of staff and students, we will be closing McCoy for the week and will continue remote instruction through February 10th. Parent-teacher conferences will be virtual at this time. We will schedule a time on Monday for teachers to hand out items students will need to continue remote learning. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to fix these issues and look forward to resuming in-person instruction at McCoy Elementary as soon as possible. Thank you, Aztec Schools

Good Afternoon Families While our City of Aztec partners have successfully completed the water main repair affecting McCoy Elementary, another leak has been identified on the campus of McCoy Elementary that needs to be repaired. In order for this repair to take place, the campus will not have water, therefore McCoy Elementary will be on remote instruction tomorrow, Thursday, February 3 as well as Friday, February 4. Teachers will be reaching out to families with further instructions regarding class times. We apologize for this inconvenience and look forward to resuming in-person instruction at McCoy Elementary as soon as possible.

Update: While the snow has subsided, the roads in many areas of the AMSD have substantial ice making travel unsafe for students and staff who may need to travel to complete remote learning. As a result, AMSD will be cancelling all virtual classes today, Wednesday, February 2, 2022. Please Enjoy the snow!
